If it feels like you’re stuck in a rut and you just don’t have the zest for life that you once had, that may be an indication that you need a change. By acting to jump-start your personal life, you can gain better control over your personal life.

Make an Assessment
The first thing you need to do, before you can get a fresh start on your personal life is to examine the various aspects of your life. Look at your health, your love life, your living situation, and your spiritual beliefs. If some aspects of your life are going well, allow yourself to feel good about that. Also, select two or three areas to improve.

Look at Your Core Beliefs
Are you doing what you want to be doing, or are you living just to pay the bills and start another day. If you’re not working towards your personal objectives, you need to make a change. Similarly, if what you are doing defies your own personal beliefs, that’s a strong indication that changes need to be made.

Look at Your Past Behaviors
If you are feeling down about your personal life, there may be a reason for that. By examining your past, you can identify self-destructive behavior patterns that brought you to this current state. Once you recognize that you have difficulty saying no or that you volunteer for too much overtime, you can work to change those behaviors. This is an important step in starting a new way of living that will give you a more positive outlook.

Ask Yourself What You Really Want Out of Life
When you take this step, it’s important to make sure you’re really asking yourself and not thinking about what others want for you. If you’re like many, you’ve already spent a good portion of your life doing what others wanted for you. It’s time to think and to act for yourself. If you’re not happy playing golf every weekend, give it up.

Act Toward Realizing Your Goals
This means not taking on too much at once. Work toward one goal and attain it, before moving onto another. As you tackle each goal, write it down and write out a strategy for accomplishing it. Keep that paper near you and post reminders where you can look at it often. By keeping those reminders around, you’ll stay motivated and you’ll be much more likely to succeed.
Giving your life a fresh start won’t be easy. It may mean making some hard changes, but it will be worth the effort. As you start out in a new direction, doing what makes you happier, you’ll find that you feel more fulfilled and life has a greater meaning for you.
